Working with Message Groups

A message group is a set of associated individuals to whom a message can be sent. For example, personnel that are available for emergencies can be a message group, as can a team of people that provides extra security for a building. Each message group is named by assigning a unique group identifier and a unique group name.

Assigning a message group ID to each message group is required, as a message group ID is required when both sending and receiving messages. When assigning a message group ID, the following requirements must be met:

·      Must be unique among all messaging IDs and group messaging IDs across all COGs.

·      Allowed characters are alpha, numeric, the period character, the dash character, and the underscore character.

·      All alpha characters are converted to lower case for storage and verification.

·      Consecutive underscore characters are not allowed, for example, “__”

·      Minimum length is 3 characters.

·      Maximum length is 80 characters.

Only the user that creates the message group can view or update the message group. However, members can be removed from a message group in the User Admin screen by a System Manager or by a COG Manager of the COG. Only COG Managers and System Managers have access to the User Admin screen.

The message groups created by an end user are available to any user in the same COG to select when sending a message.

To be a member of a message group, the person must have a messaging ID and be assigned either the SEND/RECEIVE or RECEIVE ONLY messaging type. If a user is assigned the SEND ONLY messaging type, that user cannot be selected for a message group.

The following basic activities can be performed by an end user:

·      Creating a message group

·      Searching for a message group

·      Updating a message group

·      Deleting a message group
