A device is an email account or any electronic device that is able to receive text messages, such as a PDA, pager, or cell phone. If the electronic device is not able to receive text messages, any messages sent to the device are not received. Each user should have at least one active device assigned to their listing record. An active device ensures that the user is able to receive messages if required.
Each device consists of three parts: a descriptive name, an address, and a domain name.
|
Device Name |
The device name is a descriptive name for the device, such as the name of the person to whom the device is assigned, or any other appropriate identifier. |
|
Address |
The address is the name assigned to the email account or to the electronic device. |
|
Domain Name |
The domain name is the domain assigned to the email account or electronic device, such as “amn.net”. |
Specifying a Device
The first step to specifying a device is to enter a descriptive name for the device. The next step is to specify an address and a carrier to create a device ID. The device ID can be entered manually or automatically created from the address and carrier entries.
The device ID is built in the devices screen as the address and carrier name are entered. When the address is entered, the device ID is automatically created with the address name appended by the “@” symbol. For example, if the address is “sright”, the device ID becomes “sright@”.
Next, the carrier name is selected from the list of device carrier options. When the carrier name is selected, the domain name associated with the carrier name is appended on the device ID. For example, the carrier name “American Network” represents the domain name “amn.net”. When the “American Network” carrier name is selected, the device ID is appended with “amn.net”. The complete device ID would be “sright@amn.net”.
A complete device ID can be entered manually if needed. This feature is useful if the domain name is not an option that can be selected in the Carrier field. When entering the address, enter the “@” symbol and the domain name. The EMAIL carrier name is automatically selected as the domain name.
Making a Device Inactive
A device can be made inactive if it can not be used to send or receive messages. However, a user must have at least one active device.
